Alyssa, 12th Grade
As Alyssa N., a 17-year-old senior from the Bronx, prepares to graduate from St. Catharine Academy, she’s setting her sights on a creative career in film production, media, and photography — with an aim of capturing emotional, impactful moments through her lens.
“I like to see the joy in other people’s faces,” she says.
Thanks to the solid foundation she’s been building in Catholic schools since the first grade, made possible with support from Inner-City Scholarship Fund, Alyssa is equipped with a sense of purpose that gives her the confidence to establish goals for college and beyond.
Alyssa’s educational experience has fostered her interest in media and the arts. She recognizes that a Catholic education would be out of reach if not for her scholarship, a gift that inspires her to support her peers. A member of the photography club, yearbook, and cheerleading team, Alyssa credits the small classes and “tight-knit community” for helping her open up and gain confidence despite challenges along the way.
While she is considering exploring film production or media in college, she’s sharpening her skills with sports photography, which provides her the opportunity to be present both in school and on the field. She finds fulfillment in documenting the various human experiences of her classmates and storytelling
through images.
Alyssa is deeply grateful for Inner-City’s support. It is this foundation of educational stability, personal growth, and strong community that continues to propel Alyssa toward her creative future with confidence and purpose, ensuring that she will continue to make her mark. “There’s a joy in knowing that I received help,” she says. “It makes me want to help others in return.”
