A Possible New Way to Support Students

Congress has established the federal Education Freedom Tax Credit for K-12 Scholarship Contributions, which offers a non-refundable dollar-for-dollar credit of up to $1,700 per individual for cash contributions to qualified Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs). This program has the potential to greatly benefit K-12 students served by organizations like Inner-City Scholarship Fund that provide scholarships to help families afford educational options, including Catholic schools. However, states must opt in for families to benefit. The program is scheduled to take effect January 1, 2027.

If adopted in New York, this initiative would expand access to Catholic education and assist lower- and middle-income families in having a choice for their child’s education.

New York families will only benefit if Governor Kathy Hochul chooses to opt into the program. We encourage you to contact Governor Hochul’s office and urge her to support this opportunity for families seeking a high-quality Catholic education rooted in values and academic excellence.
